I (Cara) read Where the Wild Things Are when I was very young. I loved it and the movie. I feel like we need another post in honour of Maurice Sendak: PS. (Yay Obama's support of marriage equality!) I need to say a HUGE thank you to Spike Jonze for sticking to his guns and keeping the movie dark and honest. Despite all the criticism to make it more "commercial" he kept it real. After all, the guy did Being John Malkovich for Christ's sake, I think he knows a thing or two about creating awesome movies. Such a sad week for us all. “Oh, please don't go—we'll eat you up—we love you so!” Xx This makes me want to hold and love my books even more. Birth of a Book from Glen Milner on Vimeo. ...Makes me feel a little guilty for having an Ereader. Xx It's a sad sad Tuesday May 8th, because Maurice Sendak - he of the skilled writerly ways and epic quotes - passed away early this morning. Maurice was the shiz, and you can read our previous article on him HERE. RIP, Maurice Sendak. Now you're in writer Heaven. Which is like regular Heaven, but with more booze and yelling. And hookers. I'm pretty sure on that. Can you figure out who these delightful characters are? Hint: the movie is based on one of the most incredible books of all time. OF. ALL. TIME. If you need help, click the image for the larger... image. But no cheating. So one of our wonderful followers named Francisco posted about us on a Spanish blog. Apparently, the responses to his post were quite heated (if you can read it, go ahead and enjoy). I think it's fantastic that we're stirrin shit up on the interweb, and in another language at that. Very exciting! CLICK HERE to check the blog out! Xx Remember in one of my previous posts where I reminisced about ruining Bridge to Terebithia for the entirety of my Grade 5 class because I was so shattered and completely heartbroken by the ending, but because I had read it too quickly (were you one of those kids who read the assigned book the first week you got it like I did?) I had no one to discuss my outrage with and so I lashed out and possibly ruined reading for an entire class of 10-year-olds? Well whoever did this is a soul after my own heart: Yup, my own bitter, twisted, blackened heart. Hey, at least I put Spoiler Alert in the Title. |
